BBC Radio 4 will broadcast a 5 minute feature about George Lloyd and HMS Trindad TODAY, Thursday 5th, on the World at One, after 1.30 pm.
BBC Worldwide will broadcast their own feature on the same subject as part of their history programme, Witness, at 7.50 am either on Friday 6th or Monday 9th September.
We had an excellent rehearsal of the original HMS Trinidad March for Orchestra with BBC PO at Maida Vale to provide a recording of the March for these features. The orchestra clearly loved it, and played with suitable gusto. Roll on the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday...
Reviews of the Requiem Prom (Tuesday 3rd ) have been mixed. The Proms programme paired an early Britten choral piece with Lloyd's last work, which invited comparisons. It is fair to say that some critics took the opportunity to promote Britten and to demote Lloyd. The audience at the Royal Albert Hall clearly appreciated the Lloyd Requiem, (although that was not apparent from the hostile reviews) and we have had very positive comment from some other reviewers and from people who heard the concert on Radio 3.
